York's best Etsy shops

The online global marketplace Etsy can be a daunting site to shop. In 2018, a reported 1.98 million people sold on Etsy, from jewellery to crafts to one-of-a-kind works of art and more. So where do you begin, finding York’s best Etsy shops? It can be a mind field (to say the least) so as a starter, here’s our top pick of our favourite York Etsy shops:

Twopennylane - Handmade vintage style jewellery inspired by magic, mystery, & miniatures - from Wizard of Oz themed earrings to tea–party necklaces - created by Cat Armitage, who says her childhood obsession with Sylvanian Families and dolls houses has led to her creating jewellery for ‘people cleverly disguised as responsible adults.’ The pieces are unique and unlike anything you will find on the high street, with prices – on average – ranging from £5.99-£24.99.

Naomis Stained Glass – A beautiful range of colourful handmade fused and stained-glass products (including light catchers and window panels) made by Naomi who first started evening classes in stained glass nine years ago. She now runs group glass fusing lessons (for adults and kids). These are held in York and start at £12 for kids and £20 for adults.

Lauren’s Cows - Original Cow Art, Cow Prints and Cow Greetings Cards made by self-taught artist, Lauren Terry who quite simply, loves cows as she says they make her smile and she tries to capture the natural humour of them in her paintings. We must confess; we aren’t really cow lovers ourselves, but we have to agree that Lauren’s Cows do make you smile. Better yet, she doesn’t charge astronomical artist prices – her paintings retail on average between £50-£75.

Charlotte Lucy England – You’ve probably seen this lovely little shop all over Instagram. Run by a mum on a mission to make ethical, beautiful handmade children’s bloomers, Charolotte Lucy England has gathered rave reviews (as seen on their site) and the bloomers come in a range of colours and designs for both boys and girls aged 0-5 Yrs.

Marco Looks - Artist, Marc Godfrey-Murphy used to work as an animator making cartoons for Cbeebies. Today, he’s a member of the York Print Makers and creates stunning York themed cards and prints. He’s recently designed York’s very own Valentine’s Day card, the ‘Heart of Yorkshire’, available to purchase for £3.00 on his etsy site.

Foxy Chocs – Luxury handmade treats using the tastiest blend of Belgian chocolate; from beautiful Prosecco truffles to delicious white chocolate Eton Mess bars, these quality products are very reasonably priced (starting at around £4.25), and they can even personalise chocolates and bars for that added special touch. Business owner, Caroline has over 12 years of chocolate making experience under her belt.

PQSoyWaxCandles –The product range for these luxury handmade soy wax candles and wax melts is impressive. From soy wax flower bouquets to personalised candles to thank a teacher, bespoke wedding candles, gift box collections, and baby shower/new mum candles, not to mention scents such as Scottish Heather and Thai Lime and Mango, it’s not surprising PQSoyWaxCandles is an award winning etsy shop. Prices are in the range of £4.50-£14.
